About Mallakhamb & its History

Mallakhamb combines two words – malla (wrestler) and khamb (pole). It is one of Bharat’s indigenous sports requiring athletes to balance themselves on a pole while performing acrobatic movements. It seamlessly blends elements of flexibility, balance, and grace. Mallakhamb’s oldest records date back its history to the modern world, it became even more popular during the 20th century, when it was performed across various global events.

About the Trainer – Ex National Player Vilas Govind Shrotri

A science and law graduate by education but a passionate sportsperson, Shrotri sir is a distinguished name in the field of Mallakhamb. He holds nearly 50 years of experience in professional Mallakhamb practice and has participated across various championships and sporting events. In addition, he is a Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Yogasan enthusiast with distinct contributions in these fields as well. A couple of his achievements include the following.
  • Ranked 2nd in the National Mallakhamb Tournament in 1975
  • Achieved the 1st place for three consecutive years in UP State Championship from 1976 to 1978

He also teaches Yogasan to participants from various age groups and provides Mallakhamb training to aspirants at various institutions in Pune.
